Foundations are laid for Apollo’s new India factory

Work has now commenced at Apollo Tyres’ new production plant in Chinnapanduru village in the Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, on the southeast coast of India. The facility is being built on 200 acres of land.

In the first phase the tire maker is investing approximately Rs 1800 crores (US$280m). Construction is due to begin in the next six months, with tires expected to start rolling off the production line in the following 24 months. Initially, the plant will produce passenger car tires and later other types of products.

Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, chief minister for the government of Andhra Pradesh, said, “I am very delighted that Apollo Tyres, the Indian multinational company, has chosen to set up its facilities in Chennai and Hungary, and that it is now setting-up a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh.

“This will provide jobs to nearly 700 people and to many more indirectly, in the first phase. There will also be more employment opportunities when the company expands in the future.”

Onkar S Kanwar, chairman of Apollo Tyres, added, “While planning for this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, we have provisioned for the future capacity expansion requirements in India over the next five years and beyond. We are thankful to the AP government for their cooperation so far, and are confident for the smooth construction and management of this facility.”
