AB Dynamics’’ brake robot proves highly reliable at Conti AIBA

The reliability of AB Dynamics’ BR1000 brake robot has been proven at Continental’s Contidrom facility in Germany, where each robot performs up to 24,000 brake tests per year.

The Contidrom has several demanding tracks for testing handling and wet tracks for testing the braking performance of new tires. It is also the home of the Automated Indoor Braking Analyzer (AIBA), an indoor facility where tire braking tests are done using real cars on real road surfaces, but without a driver on board.

Continental chose the BR1000 brake robot to be fitted to test vehicles, which are moved down the indoor track using a rollercoaster propulsion system. They are used all day, every day.

Philipp Must, head of the AIBA, said, “The AIBA has become an indispensable development tool for Continental. Especially the evaluation of new tire materials demands the highest testing quality. The exact repeatability of the full emergency brake-maneuvers is one of the keys for our confidence and accuracy.
