To meet the increasing demands of the local market, Yokohama Rubber has announced it is to make an investment of US$82m in India to expand the annual passenger car tire production capacity of Yokohama India’s (YIN) Visakhapatnam Plant.

The company plans to increase annual production capacity at the site from 2,800,000 to 4,500,000 tires by installing a new line at the facility which is scheduled to begin production in Q4 2024. The line will be capable of manufacturing passenger car tires up to 22in in diameter.

YIN has been operating since 2007 and contributed to a growth in sales of Yokohama tires in India by producing quality tires tailored for the Indian market. In 2014, YIN’s annual production capacity was 700,000 tires, which grew to 1,530,000 in 2019 and 1,960,000 in 2021.
