Nokian Tyres has launched its next-generation of smart tire technology featuring a smart pressure assistant with load sensing, the Nokian Tyres Intuitu 2.0. The innovation has been developed for the company’s Soil King VF tractor tires and aims to help agricultural professionals maximize productivity, reduce fuel consumption, protect soil and extend tire life.
Correct tire pressures minimize soil compaction. Nokian Tyres’ Intuitu 2.0 Smart Pressure Assistant uses built-in sensors inside the tires to calculate the tractor’s actual operating weight and operating conditions. Based on this data, it provides tire pressure recommendations directly to the user via a mobile application. This process normally requires time, detailed calculations and specialized equipment, but Nokian says its solution provides the necessary data in a faster and simpler way.
“Our vision is to lead the world to drive smarter,” said Paolo Pompei president and CEO of Nokian Tyres. “By introducing Nokian Tyres Intuitu 2.0, we are offering agricultural professionals a groundbreaking technology that delivers clear, practical benefits to improve their daily work. This innovation takes Nokian Tyres another step closer to making that vision a reality.”
Smart technology for passenger tires
Nokian Tyres Intuitu is the company’s first commercially adapted sensor technology. Introduced in 2019, it has been developed further to offer additional benefits for daily use. The system supports agricultural professionals, provides useful data to drivers of passenger cars and contributes to overall road safety.
“In the future, smart features in tires will increase further, and smart systems will also be available for passenger cars. They will help the driver to operate safely under changing conditions,” said Mika Penttilä, head of digital technologies at Nokian Tyres.
Penttilä continued, “In the near future, tires will continuously communicate with vehicles’ brake and assist systems, generating real-time data on the condition of the road surface and the overall driving conditions. Furthermore, all the data can be compiled together, and the information can be made available to fleet owners, vehicle service shops, the authorities and road maintenance, improving the safety not only of the vehicle but also of all road users.”
