Marangoni and Recamax highlight benefits of retreading for OTR rubber

Marangoni and German OTR retread distributor Recamax have highlighted the growing advantages of retreading, in relation to the environmental benefits and cost savings.

Each year Marangoni OTR retreads save thousands of tons of raw materials such as rubber and steel. Using four 23.5 R25 retreaded tires on a vehicle is estimated to reduce CO2 emissions by 2,500kg compared with their new equivalents (one year of emissions for an 80m2 apartment).

Marangoni’s R&D department estimates that retreading a 45/65 R45 tire for wheel loaders saves more than 50% of the oil required to manufacture an equivalent sized new tire.

Heike Kerkhof, MD at Recamax, said, “Retreading gives a tire a second or even a third life in some cases, which leads to considerable savings in terms of costs. If correctly managed, even the largest tire can be retreaded for less than 40-50% of the cost of a new, premium tire.”
