Nexen Tire has announced that it is to supply its premium SUV tire, the Roadian GTX, and its ultra-high performance summer tire, the N’Fera Sport, as original equipment (OE) tires for the Kia EV5.
The Roadian GTX is an all-season SUV tire fitted on vehicles in the North American and Korean markets. The N’Fera Sport is a summer tire tailored to the European market, prioritizing high-speed stability and braking performance. This supply strategy is tailored to the driving environments and tire consumption patterns of each country.
Nexen Tire has introduced new tire designs tailored to the performance characteristics of electric vehicles (EVs). The company’s proprietary torque steer pattern design (TSPD) aims to minimize torque steer, an effect caused by high motor output that can pull the vehicle to one side during rapid acceleration.
To enhance traction and stability, the company has optimized the stiffness distribution across each tread block, increasing the tire’s contact area with the road and reducing the risk of wheel slip. Additionally, an in-out multi-sequence block arrangement has been applied to help disperse road noise, a feature particularly relevant for EVs, which operate more quietly than internal combustion vehicles.
“Supplying OE tires for the Kia EV5 proves that our products deliver reliable performance for the era of electric vehicles,” said John Bosco (Hyeon Suk) Kim, CEO of Nexen Tire. “We will strengthen our global market position through an integrated production strategy, and maintain our excellent performance without distinction between EVs and ICE vehicles.”
