Apollo Tyres has announced its Vredestein Ultrac and Sportrac summer tires have been selected by German OEM Audi as the original equipment (OE) for the Audi A1 Sportback. Factory fitment will be available on selected models.

The tires will be manufactured at Apollo’s Hungarian production facility and will be supplied to Audi in two sizes, a 185/65 R15 V Sportrac and a 215/45 R17 W Ultrac.

Apollo says that a growing number of OEMs are choosing the Vredestein products for original equipment, as the Netherlands-based tire brand seeks to strengthen its position in the European OE market.

A collaborative development program between Audi and Apollo focused on minimizing rolling resistance. The result was Vredestein tires that optimized the efficiency and dynamic characteristics of the A1 Sportback, while supporting the tire manufacturer’s continuing R&D activities in the OE product sector.

The tires are claimed to provide superior driving dynamics in wet and dry conditions, in addition to lower noise levels and higher standards of comfort. Both tires will also be available on the replacement market.

“The Audi A1 Sportback offers class-best standards of refinement, efficiency and handling, and specifying the Ultrac and Sportrac as OE fitment highlights the premium-quality dynamic characteristics of these tires,” commented Benoit Rivallant, president and CEO, Apollo Tyres Europe. “We have worked hard to develop this latest relationship and build on our growing portfolio of manufacturer recommendations.”
