Orion Engineered Carbons, a global supplier of specialty and high-performance carbon black, has announced the launch of a new product, Ecorax Nature.

The latest products from the carbon black company have been specially developed for rubber applications by utilizing industrial-grade, plant-based oils. Produced using a sustainable and renewable, non-fossil-derived feedstock, Ecorax Nature 100 is said to be the first highly reinforcing carbon black grade product made using renewable feedstocks.

The product can be utilized in tire tread construction and is currently undergoing a customer testing program before high-volume manufacturing begins in the second part of 2022.

“This launch is an important milestone in our strategy to develop commercially viable carbon black products that drive sustainability across the value chain,” commented Corning Painter, chief executive officer, Orion Engineered Carbons. “This strategy, combined with our footprint, ability to innovate and deep customer relationships, makes Orion the right partner for a sustainable future.”

Produced using exclusively plant-based oils, the Orion Engineered Carbons product seeks to reduce CO2 emissions created by the tire industry supply chain.
