New rubber from Cooper undergoes most extreme winter program ever

LinkedIn +

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe has launched the Discoverer Winter tire for mid-to-full-size SUVs. The tire is the result of Cooper Tire Europe’s most comprehensive winter development program to date.

Based centrally at the European Technical Centre in Melksham, UK, tests were also conducted at Arctic Falls in Sweden and at Test World in Finland, and covered disciplines including snow acceleration and braking, snow handling, ice braking and acceleration.

Thanks to special circumferential snow grooves and an alternating serrated edge on the snow grooves on the center of the tread, the tire is said to provide extremely high levels of grip.

A coupled-silica tread compound and a directional tread pattern, which efficiently displaces water in the wet, also ensure grip in the wet, slush, and on ice in extremely cold temperatures.
