Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ South Africa factory in Ladysmith commenced the production of tires for trucks and buses on July 19.

As part of its strategy to ensure a stable supply of truck and bus tires for markets throughout Africa, SRI invested a total of R970m and (US$66.5m) to install new, cutting-edge manufacturing equipment at the plant.

Until now, Sumitomo Rubber South Africa relied on imports to supply the African markets with truck and bus tires. Going forward, the SRI Group will continue working to enhance its tire sales business in Africa as part of its efforts to further grow and develop the overall global business.
