Pirelli drops new cloud-based tire monitoring system at Geneva

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Pirelli has launched its new cloud-based tire monitoring system, Connesso. The platform, integrated into P Zero or Winter Sottozero tires in the replacement market, communicates with the driver via an app, thanks to a sensor embedded in the internal wall of the tire. This app supplies vital information on various tire parameters including temperature and wear, as well as offering a series of personalized services.

Pirelli Connesso will initially be available in 19in and bigger sizes of the model, initially in the USA from summer 2017 and then in principal markets within Europe and the Far East.

Meanwhile, using specially developed Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, Lamborghini has set a new record time for a lap of the Nurburgring.

The Huracan Performante, which set a lap time of 6 minutes and 52.1 seconds, was shod with P Zero Trofeo R tires, in 245/30Z R20 at the front and 305/30Z R20 at the back.

The rubber was designed and developed specifically by Pirelli’s engineers for the record attempt in just three months, thanks to advanced modeling techniques and correlation of on-track data with telemetry.

As a result, the combined work of Pirelli and Lamborghini’s engineers meant that a base setup was established in just one development session.
