The Apollo Tyres Global R&D Centre in Chennai, India, has been honored with an NDTV Design & Architecture Award 2016 in the ‘Architecture Award, Office’ category.

The facility was designed by Calm Studio and sits within a ‘shelter’, with its inherent quality of light, shade, visual and sensory appeal, and pulse. The shelter, or envelope, was developed using a perforated screen that embraces the interior and exterior spaces of the building, providing a vibrant and manageable landscape.

The work stations, guest areas and ancillaries have been housed in transparent modular units, which ensure maximum daylight in all areas, and can easily be multiplied. The ‘shelter’ also helps in cutting radiation, heat and glare.

The facility has been certified LEED Gold.
