The Volkswagen Group has selected the Apollo Tyres Vredestein Wintrac Pro high-performance winter tire as original equipment (OE) for its Tiguan SUV in Europe.
Apollo will supply the Vredestein Wintrac pro in size 215/65 R17 99H specification. The tires will be fitted to Tiguan models at the Volkswagen production facility in Wolfsburg, Germany. The Wintrac Pro tires will also be available on the replacement market.
Vredestein says the Wintrac Pro is a dedicated performance-focused winter tire that offers “impressive levels of grip and control, even in the most challenging conditions”. Certified with the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, the Wintrac Pro complies with EU winter tire regulations (ECE R117) and has been optimized for snow and ice performance, with an EU tire label rating of ‘A’ for wet grip.
Manufactured at the Gyöngyöshalász plant in Hungary, the Wintrac Pro features a patented compound enriched with high silica and resin content, in order to provide better traction on wet, snowy and icy surfaces. Its tread design features sharply angled center grooves and shoulder sipes, to deliver “reliable cornering performance in challenging conditions”.
The tire has been engineered to distribute pressure evenly to optimize grip on snow, with horizontal sipes to improve both braking and acceleration response.
Alongside supporting its winter capabilities, the Wintrac Pro is said to also enhance the Tiguan’s sporty driving characteristics. With an ‘H’ speed rating, the tire is certified for up to 210km/h (130mph), offering drivers the confidence in all-weather handling, with shorter braking distances and high-speed stability. Rated ‘C’ for rolling resistance and ‘B’ for road noise, the Wintrac Pro also optimizes vehicle range while providing a quieter, more comfortable driving experience.
Yves Pouliquen, vice president commercial EMEA at Apollo Tyres, commented, “The Vredestein Wintrac Pro is an ideal match for the Volkswagen Tiguan, delivering exceptional performance whether on a dry autobahn or navigating snowy alpine roads. We are thrilled to see the Tiguan join the growing list of vehicles equipped with Vredestein tires as standard, and we look forward to further strengthening our relationship with the Volkswagen Group.”
In related news, the board of Apollo Tyres NL (ATNL) recently submitted a request for advice to its Works Council as it intends to discontinue the tire production and production-related activities at the company’s plant in Enschede in the Netherlands by the summer of 2026.
