Pirelli has launched the Cinturato Evo TLR, a successor to the Cinturato Velo.
While retaining the Cinturato Velo’s reliability and puncture protection, the Cinturato Evo TLR features SmartEVO AS, Pirelli Cycling’s advanced compound known for its grip, vibration damping and durability. This enables high levels of grip in all seasons and across a variety of surfaces, enhancing comfort and handling. The range also introduces the road Enduro tire.
The Cinturato Evo TLR boasts a composition of over 50% of bio-based and recycled materials, as verified by Bureau Veritas, following ISO 14021. This is complemented by the FSC certification relating to the responsible supply chain management of the natural rubber contained in the tire.
Inspired by motorcycle tires
Manufactured in Italy at Pirelli’s Bollate plant in Milan, the Cinturato Evo TLR is a tubeless-ready tire designed for road cycling, commuting and gravel riding. It features a wide range of sizes from 28-622 to 55-622, and is suited for urban use.
The special tread of the Cinturato Evo TLR was inspired by the grooves of one of the Pirelli motorcycle tires dedicated to road Enduro racing, the Scorpion Trail III. Like its counterpart for motorbikes, the Cinturato Evo TLR is primarily intended for use on asphalt, but it also features a tread groove design developed to handle dirt roads, particularly gravel.
Pirelli has reengineered the tread pattern of the Scorpion Trail III for bicycle use, with a targeted distribution of grooves and solid sections along the profile. Compared to the traditional geometries of more ‘racing-style’ road tires, the tread of the Evo TLR features a slick central band designed to provide a solid, rigid footprint for enhanced mileage and cut resistance, while its more sculpted shoulders help the compound deliver greater grip on wet or slippery surfaces. The pattern, rich in grooves and edges, increases traction on surfaces that are not necessarily paved, such as typical gravel terrains.
The optimization of the contact patch and the new construction also contribute to a marked improvement in abrasion resistance, resulting in a +40% increase in mileage compared to the original Velo, with the same tread thickness.
The Evo TLR is available in sizes 28-622, 30-622, 32-622, 35-622, 40-622 in black and, for sizes 28, 30 and 32 also in the Classic and Retro versions. It will also be available later in the season in wider sizes: 45-622, 50-622 and 55-622.
In related news, Apollo Tyres recently signed new distribution agreements for France and Scandinavia as part of a broader plan to improve the availability and visibility of the Vredestein bicycle tire range across Europe. Click here to read the full story.
