The Sport Maxx Race 2 tire from Dunlop has been approved by Porsche as original equipment for the new 911 GT3 RS in sizes 265/35Z R20 (99Y) XL and 325/30Z R21 (108Y) XL.

The new tire was developed especially for the application and features an evolved design and compound to provide better grip and performance over the previous version. Testing took place at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany and on Porsche’s proving ground in Nardò in Italy.

“The Sport Maxx Race 2 is an excellent match for our 911 GT3 RS, in terms of dry performance, grip and steering precision. The quality demonstrated and Dunlop’s capability to understand and implement our requirements were the key to success,” said Jan Frank, Porsche motorsport lead development engineer.

By optimizing the tire contour, engineers have been able to balance pressure distribution across the tire’s footprint, giving the driver more feedback while cornering to improve steering precision. The tire’s tread features bridges between the grooves, which enhance its rigidity.

It is made of a unique motorsport-derived compound, which heats up quicker than normal compounds. This improves the friction between tire and road, greatly enhancing grip and providing longer performance stability when driving high performance cars.
