The new Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy tires from Michelin deliver low rolling resistance, strong grip, extended longevity and precise handling, as the tire maker bolsters its offering in the segment that accounts for around 80% of global tire sales
“These innovations reflect a profound transformation in mobility. Today’s tires must combine performance, longevity and energy efficiency while supporting the transition to electrified vehicles,” said Jean-Claude Pats, automobile and two-wheel business line director and member of Michelin’s executive committee.
The Michelin Primacy 5 Energy is designed for long-lasting safety and efficiency. It is rated A for wet braking and delivers up to 8% shorter braking distances compared with its predecessor, both when new and when worn down to 2mm tread depth.
Featuring Energy Passive 2.0 Technology, which uses functionalized elastomers, new resins and an optimized tread architecture, the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy offers longer mileage. According to Michelin, independent testing indicates the tire can last significantly longer than competing products, with a lifespan of up to 40% more in comparable conditions.
The tire also carries an A rating for rolling resistance, reducing fuel consumption by up to 6% and increasing EV range by up to 10% – the company cites potential savings of up to 0.3 liters per 100km, up to 70 km of additional EV range per charge and reduced CO₂ emissions over the tire’s lifetime. The Primacy 5 Energy also achieves an A rating for external rolling noise and is designed to improve cabin comfort.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy targets drivers seeking sport-oriented handling with improved efficiency. It features Dynamic Response Technology and an Adaptive Grip Compound for precise steering and grip in wet and dry conditions. MaxTouch Technology is used to optimize contact patch distribution and reduce wear, while an energy-focused compound on the shoulders helps lower rolling resistance.
Michelin said the Pilot Sport 5 Energy was validated under extreme conditions, including in the Mercedes AMG GT Concept XX project, where it sustained 300km/h speeds for nearly eight days of continuous operation.
The Primacy 5 Energy is available in 33 sizes from 16in-19in and the Pilot Sport 5 Energy is available in 19 sizes from 19in-21in.
