Mercedes-AMG selects Continental tires for C43

The Continental SportContact 7 has been selected by Mercedes-AMG as the factory-approved tire for its C43 vehicle model.

The Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance (UUHP) tire will be fitted in a 245/45 ZR 18 FR 100Y XL size, and has been designed for speeds of up to 300km/h. The tire benefits from a specially developed rubber compound which ensures vehicles have an optimized amount of on-road grip. When compared to its previous iteration, the SportContact 6, the latest version of the tire delivers 10% better mileage on the racetrack, an 8% reduction in wet braking distance, a 6% reduction in dry braking distance and a service life which has been extended by 17%.

To further maximize grip and handling, the tire features an adaptive tread design which changes on wet and dry road surfaces. This is enabled by a tread design. When pointing straight, the tire’s footprint ends at the point of highest water drainage in the tread, which ensures a high level of grip during braking, acceleration and cornering in wet conditions.

When cornering on dry roads, the footprint shifts to the outer shoulder. This portion of the tire has been designed to transmit high load forces for stable handling characteristics. Newly developed locking elements in the SportContact 7’s outer shoulder enhance stability as these limit the movement of the tread for improved handling.

The SportContact 7 is also available in the tire replacement business in dimensions ranging from 18in to 23in.
