LC Carbon and Mars Mineral sign memorandum of understanding for pin mixer equipment supply

As part of a new MoU, Mars Mineral will develop and install its pin mixer technology at LD Carbon’s latest pyrolysis and recovered carbon black (rCB) facility, stated to be the largest of its type in Asia.

From its Asia facility LD Carbon supplies an environmentally friendly rCB – named Green Carbon Black – which is produced from end-of-life tires which have been pyrolyzed, refined and processed for reuse by tire and rubber manufacturers. The company also reclaims pyrolysis oil from the process which is then used to replace crude oil and raw materials used in petrochemical products.

The pin mixer equipment supplied by Mars Mineral’s takes the fine pyrolyzed char from end-of-life tires and pelletizes it in the presence of a binder – usually water. The resulting end product is dried rCB pellets which are easier to package and transport to end-users in a range of industries for reuse, including companies in the rubber and plastics sectors.

“Pelletizing is vital to moving the output from a pyrolysis plant to their customers,” said Clayton Woodward, Mars Mineral CEO. “It is an important link in material circularity strategies, which derive value from unrecovered post-consumer materials like ELTs. We welcome this opportunity with such an ecologically progressive company as LD Carbon.”
