Carbon black specialist Birla Carbon and Chasm Advanced Materials, which develops and manufactures printed electronics materials and battery materials, are joining forces to accelerate the discovery and development of novel nanomaterials to benefit various market segments including high-performance tires.

Through the joint development agreement, the two companies will share research and engineering resources to develop and manufacture hybrid nanomaterials based on carbon substrates and carbon nanotubes. These hybrid nanomaterials will combine Chasm’s nanotube enhanced carbon (NTeC) technology with Birla Carbon’s expertise in commercialization and manufacturing. The companies anticipate jointly developing novel carbon nanomaterials tailored for performance in a wide variety of demanding applications.

Dr Santrupt B Misra, CEO of Birla Carbon, said, “The combination of Chasm’s expertise in nanotube enhancement and our deep knowledge of carbon substrates and applications offers us the chance to rapidly advance our understanding of these high-performance, scalable nanomaterials.”

“Birla Carbon offers us faster access to customers and markets,” added David Arthur, CEO and co-founder of Chasm. “Their experience with large-scale manufacturing of engineered nanomaterials is outstanding.”

According to the two companies, the collaboration is ultimately aimed at driving sustainable innovative solutions to address customer, consumer and industry needs.
