Global Rubber Industries has begun construction of its new plant in Badalgama, Sri Lanka, where the company will manufacture pneumatic tires for agriculture, industrial, off-the-road and construction vehicles.

“I am proud to lay the foundation for the next phase of growth for GRI in specialty tires. This factory will be designed and equipped with state-of-the-art technology and will focus on technical innovation, precision engineering and operational excellence,” said Prabhash Subasinghe, MD of GRI.

GRI will invest over US$40m in the new factory, which will be built on 10 acres of land adjacent to the company’s current solid industrial tire manufacturing facility in Badalgama.

According to GRI, it will be the largest factory in Sri Lanka dedicated to the production of specialty tires. It will also be the first in the country to produce radial agricultural tires. The plant is expected to commence trial production by the end of 2017.
