Hankook opens CMF LAB for research in industrial tire design

LinkedIn +

Hankook has launched its CMF Lab – a database dedicated to the research and categorization of current design trends relating to color, material and finish (CMF). The CMF Lab is part of Model Solution, a company in the Hankook Technology Group, which supports tire manufacturing with creative future-oriented concepts. The CMF Lab will work together with the British design studio, Chris Lefteri Design.

The in-house creative database will support Hankook in product development, offering new and (the tire maker hopes) unique industry insights and concepts. One of the first joint projects between Hankook and Model Solution is the development of a tire prototype that adapts its shape according to the road conditions. The research carried out by Model Solution enables the tire to maintain a perfect balance during the transformation.

The CMF Lab is located in Model Solution’s headquarters in Seoul, and will be divided into six areas covering various design aspects related to CMF. The lab, working in collaboration with Chris Lefteri Design will focus on four themes – retro, sustainability, feel and the fantastic.
