Continental has been selected as the OE tire supplier for Nissan’s new all-electric Nissan N7, which will come factory-fitted with 19in EcoContact 7. In this dimension, the tire achieves top ratings in the EU tire label categories for energy efficiency and rolling noise.
The EcoContact 7 uses a new rubber compound and Continental’s Smart Energy Casing technology to reduce rolling resistance. Updated materials in the carcass, inner liner and sidewall are designed to lower internal friction, while the sidewall profile is shaped to reduce aerodynamic drag.
One notable feature is the aerodimple texture on the sidewall, a dimpled surface similar to that of a golf ball, which Continental says reduces air turbulence around the tire and, by extension, the vehicle’s overall energy consumption.
For noise reduction, the EcoContact 7 uses Continental’s Silent Pattern tread design. The spacing and angles of the tread blocks are configured to target the noise frequencies most commonly produced during urban driving, with the aim of reducing both in-cabin noise and external sound levels.
