The Michelin X-Crane 2 is now available in size 445/95 R 25 178F TL, following an initial size launched in mid-2024. The tire has been designed for all-terrain and mobile tower cranes, for on- and off-road use, combining a construction casing with a Michelin-inspired truck tire tread.
The Michelin X-Crane 2 was developed in collaboration with leading companies in the industry and designed to deliver reliability, energy efficiency and productivity.
Lightweight
The tire weighs 5% less than its predecessor, the Michelin X-Crane +. Its low rolling resistance is said to reduce carbon emissions through enhanced fuel efficiency, resulting in lower operational costs. The fuel consumption of a machine fitted with the tire is said to be reduced by 13.3% compared with its main competitor (the Bridgestone VHS2 in the 445/95 R 25 size), corresponding to around 826 liters (roughly US$1,500 saved) with a crane that has a mileage of 10,000km.
The tire enables vehicles to carry heavier loads at the same speed as a result of the change to its load and speed index from 174F to 178F4. The upgraded casing enables a load capacity increase of 800kg per tire when traveling at 80km/h. This increased load capacity represents an additional load of 1.6 metric tons per axle. Engineers have reportedly also reduced heat buildup, resulting in enhanced durability and performance in demanding conditions.
Performance
The tire’s braking performance has also been improved: on wet roads, the braking distance of the Michelin X-Crane 2 is 21% shorter than that of its competitor. With M+S marking, the 445/95 R 25 size is also suitable for use in mud and snow. The tire tread features the Michelin Regenion technology, which uses different types of lamellae that form a changing profile, giving the tire high levels of grip and traction throughout its entire service life and in all weather conditions. To create these complex treads, the tire molds are partially manufactured using a process called 3D metal printing. Regenion is said to reduce tread deformation and rolling resistance, which lowers fuel consumption.
The Michelin X-Crane 2 in the 445/95 R 25 size is approved for numerous machines on the European and American markets.
