Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate Scientist to support the development and evaluation of new sustainable solutions for the reinforcement of rubber for the tire and industrial products industry. Additionally, the scientist can expect to contribute to building our Centers of Excellence in rubber compounding and evaluation. Responsible for establishing and meeting project milestones and objectives for our R&D organization. We are seeking a fully qualified and experienced scientist who can manage/lead projects. The Sr. Associate will work on-site in Billerica, MA with some Flexible Work Arrangements possible.

How You Will Make an Impact
In this role your primary duty will be as an independent researcher responsible for the delivery of projects in areas of materials, products, method development, and/or applications to support our Sustainability Objectives in Rubber Applications. Your assignments will require a broad understanding in fields related to nanoparticles and reinforcement of rubber. With an emphasis on research and synthesis of data into actionable information; planning and designing/ adapting methods; improving methodology your work will influence the solutions we bring to market. We will look to you to provide guidance and training to more junior employees. This role requires a highly intelligent self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, strong organization skills, hunger to learn and grow and urgency to make things happen. A successful candidate will be someone who can:
• Independently contribute to diverse areas of product, process research or applications development to develop innovations, fundamental insights, new designs, or new techniques to advance the field. Responsible for leading certain aspects and/or developing non-standard procedures and equipment.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of work for a part of a moderately-sized project or total project of minor scope to safely meet objectives and timeline.
• Provide oversight and training of one or more junior members of the team who have been assigned to support their project(s), to plan activities, oversee work quality, address day-to-day questions related to the project(s) being supported; provides input to the individual’s manager on performance, etc.
What You Will Bring to Cabot
• Post-secondary Technical degree (Bachelor’s/University) and generally 4+ years of related experience, OR Master’s Degree in a related technical discipline and generally 1+ years of related experience
• Technical Excellence. Rubber formulation or interfacial chemistry experience highly desired; elastomer/polymer experience preferred. Strong analytical, observation and problem-solving skills. Ability to draw conclusions from experimental work and propose next steps. Experience with Analytical problem-solving methodologies (e.g. root cause analysis, failure mode analysis).
• Communication & Presentation Skills. Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Guide Results. Generates data, conducts advanced statistical analysis, and organizes and interprets data to establish and support new process, materials, and/or application learning. Conducts tests, draws conclusions, advances hypotheses, and proposes next steps.
• Works Safely. Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for Excellence in the fields of sustainability and Safety, Health and preservation of the Environment.
