Yxlon International has appointed Dr Thomas Wenzel as senior expert for computed tomography (CT) technology. Wenzel, who is also VP of technology at the Comet Group, has around 18 years of experience working with CT and is acknowledged as an expert in the area of industrial x-ray inspection, both nationally and internationally.

Over the course of his 21 years at the Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft), Wenzel had focused on radiographic technology. Although he had obtained his doctorate in computer science, he didn’t approach the subject purely from a scientific side – he concerned himself primarily with the usability of new processes to benefit industry.

Beginning with automated defect recognition, he established a team of software developers and engaged in industrial CT as early as 1996. In 2001, Wenzel was awarded the Joseph-von-Fraunhofer Prize, together with two colleagues, for developing an automatic x-ray inspection method for the inspection of cast parts during the production process.

“To me, the switch to industry was a logical step. I have always worked together closely with the industry in my R&D projects,” Wenzel said. “When I received the offer to fulfill this position I didn’t hesitate too long. Supporting a global market leader in the further development of its core competencies is a new and intriguing challenge.”
