Following its recent partnership with the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), TyreSafe has announced a further partnership with the British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) and the Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA). Together, the four organizations represent every stage of the tire lifecycle and their collaboration marks the first time all four are working together in formal alignment to advance road safety, compliance and education.
These collaborations bring the UK’s retailers, manufacturers, importers and safety advocates into a unified alliance to eliminate harm caused by illegal and poorly maintained tires. The partnerships will focus on joint communication, evidence sharing and the coordinated delivery of safety campaigns that reach drivers, fleets and industry professionals nationwide.
The collaboration comes as concerns rise over tire condition at the point of replacement and the continued high number of tire-related incidents on UK roads. By combining data, technical expertise and communication reach, the organizations aim to make tire safety messaging more consistent, accessible and trusted among consumers and professionals alike.
Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe chair, said, “This is a truly defining moment for tire safety in the UK. For the first time, TyreSafe, the NTDA, BTMA and ITMA are standing together as one — aligning the voices of the entire tire supply chain. By bringing together manufacturers, importers, retailers and safety advocates, we’re creating a unified platform for education, evidence-based campaigning and meaningful change.”
“This collaboration ensures that whether someone is buying a tire, fitting one, importing one, wholesaling one or manufacturing one, the same clear message will be heard: safe tires save lives.”
Real-world action
In October, TyreSafe and BTMA worked together on a joint on-the-ground activity at Exeter Services and Lymm Services (NW) in the UK, where BTMA representatives joined TyreSafe’s campaign team to support a series of truck tire safety checks. The exercise gathered valuable data on the condition of HGV tires, providing practical insight into fleet tire maintenance and compliance. The collaboration also saw TyreSafe and BTMA share technical resources and expertise on-site.
Darren Lindsey, chief executive of the BTMA, commented, “The BTMA is delighted to formalize this partnership with TyreSafe. Our members are committed to ensuring that tires designed, manufactured and sold in the UK meet the highest standards of safety and performance. Working alongside TyreSafe, ITMA and the NTDA allows us to reinforce these standards at every stage — ensuring drivers receive consistent advice and support wherever they engage with the tire industry. By uniting behind this shared vision, we can help save lives, reduce risk and enhance public trust in our sector.”
Alfred Graham, president of ITMA, added, “The imported tire sector plays a vital role in keeping the UK moving, and our members take that responsibility seriously. Partnering with TyreSafe and our colleagues at BTMA and NTDA is a major step forward in ensuring all drivers, regardless of what brand they choose, understand how tire safety affects performance, cost and compliance. This collaboration brings together every part of the industry in one shared mission — improving safety standards and awareness for everyone on the road.”
Through coordinated campaigns, shared research and joint outreach, the partnerships aim to strengthen engagement with the public, policymakers and industry professionals. The initiative underscores TyreSafe’s continued focus on collaboration as the charity approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026.
