Goodyear’s Eagle F1 SuperSport RS has been homologated for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Porsche 911 GT3 RS in sizes 265/35 ZR 20 (99Y) XL at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 (108Y) XL at the rear.

Jan Frank, lead engineer, Porsche Motorsport, commented, “The new Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS has proven to provide the very high performance level we require. Goodyear has designed a great tire, which perfectly adheres to the extreme requirements of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.”

The brief for the Eagle F1 SuperSport RS was to develop a tire with track performance. Porsche Motorsport required tires capable of predictably and exploitably transmitting 700hp and 750Nm through the rear wheels, with peak torque from just 2,500rpm, transferring power into straight-line and cornering performance.

Design and engineering took place at Goodyear’s tech facility in Hanau, Germany. Final testing involved runs at Nardò in Italy.

Xavier Fraipont, VP EMEA product development for Goodyear, said, “Goodyear has a great heritage in motorsport. Now we bring all our experience and knowledge into the new Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS, developed in Europe to increase the performance level of super sport cars, with the main focus on all track day performances.”

Design direction

Numerous innovations have been applied to achieve the desired performance for the ultra, ultra-high performance tire (UUHP).

A special racing compound maximizes dry grip by combining very stiff tread elements with a shallow tread. This combination of technologies helps maximize the g-forces while minimizing movement of tread pattern in extreme cornering conditions – providing the driver with high grip and extremely precise steering.

The adapted tire construction features lessons learned from motorsport and an exclusive tire profile, which increases the contact profile compared to a traditional tire, with strong aramid winding to keep the pressure distribution constant in different driving conditions and speeds.

Finally, the tread design features a large outer shoulder designed to optimize the transmission of all lateral forces and facilitate extreme cornering stability.

Nick Harley, managing director of Goodyear OE in the EMEA region, added, “In the development of the SuperSport RS we have leveraged our talented engineering teams and world-class development facilities to produce an unbeaten UUHP tire.

“The list of tires truly competitive in these conditions is short. For the Eagle F1 SuperSport RS, to receive the praise it has had from a vehicle manufacturer such as Porsche, truly reflects how Goodyear is increasing the level of performance in the UUHP segment.”
