Revived in 2022, the XCR Sprint Cup is a cross-country rally championship for off-road vehicles. Previously held only in Hokkaido, the series expanded to Honshu in 2026 following growing participation and national interest.

In the race, adaptability to the varied surfaces, especially on narrow forest roads, is crucial. In addition to the unique friction changes of rough unpaved roads, precise line setting and stable traction performance on narrow, technical sections will determine the outcome.

The 18-inch tire has earned top ratings on the EU tire label for energy efficiency and rolling noise, and meets key requirements expected for electric vehicles today: low rolling resistance to help maximize driving range and low rolling noise for a quieter, more pleasant driving experience.

The EcoContact 7 achieves high energy efficiency through a new rubber compound and Smart Energy Casing technology. This technology uses new materials in the tire’s carcass, liner and sidewall to reduce internal friction and lower rolling resistance.

For a vehicle with a battery range of 500km, this translates to approximately an additional 30km of range per charge – roughly the distance from Paris to Versailles.

The starting point for the tire was Continental’s EcoContact 7, which was then adapted to Renault Group’s requirements. The tire maker combined a specially modified tread compound with a customized sidewall design and an optimized tire construction.

Responding to market demand, the tire maker has now expanded the range with a new X Line Grip D pre-mold retread and additional sizes for long-haul and regional applications across North America.

“The expansion of the Michelin X Line Grip D lineup reflects our commitment to delivering unmatched performance across every mile of the tire’s life,” said Yahn Heurlin, vice president of B2B marketing for Michelin North America. “Fleets have validated the performance of the Michelin Line Grip D tire in real-world conditions, and now we are expanding that same trusted performance through an additional size offering and a retread solution engineered to deliver the same performance as the new tire.”

At the heart of the X Line Grip D tire is the Michelin Duracore casing, which has been engineered for maximum durability and retreadability and designed to deliver up to a million miles with up to four retreads, the tire maker said, adding that the casing can help fleets achieve extended tire life while reducing total cost of ownership.
