Goodyear has unveiled its latest evolution of the Goodyear CheckPoint drive-over tire inspection solution, introducing new features and an updated technology for tread depth reading. The upgraded solution is designed to support transportation operators and service partners in expanding their operations and improving efficiency.

At IAA Transportation 2024, Goodyear revealed improvements such as a modular tread depth sensor and advanced optical technology for increased robustness, precision and serviceability. Building on these advancements, the latest updates are designed to further support proactive and preventive maintenance, promote service opportunities and enhance workshop efficiency.

Vipal Rubber has revealed a new tread, the VT570. Designed to meet specific needs in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) market, it has been designed with rotational direction for improved traction power in the mixed segment (on- and off-road). VT570 is well suited for vehicles that operate in varied terrains, including paved and non-paved streets and roads. It can be used in transportation for civil construction, garbage collection and agricultural activities, for example.

The tread blocks are designed to promote torque distribution and maximize mileage performance, while the compound has been developed to offer greater resistance to cutting and chipping, balancing this with greater durability and useful life.

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), a non-departmental public body of the UK government’s Department for Business and Trade, has recommended an increase in the duties paid by the majority of Chinese tire exporters, as part of an effort to protect the UK’s tire retreading industry.

The advice, concerning truck, bus and radial (TBR) tires, comes after two transition reviews into anti-dumping and countervailing measures on lorry and bus tires imported from China. These reviews examined the UK’s existing anti-dumping and countervailing measures, which were originally implemented due to the UK’s membership of the EU. Following the end of the transition period on December 31, 2020, these measures were incorporated into UK law.

Continental has introduced the CasingManager app (CMA) with the aim of enhancing its casing management services. The new digital tool is designed to streamline the process for retailers by enabling quick registration and digital management of casings.

The CMA lets retailers scan the serial number on the tire, which automatically transfers details such as the barcode number, size and DOT number. After the initial scan, the app sequentially assigns barcodes to subsequent casings. Upon confirmation from the service provider, the app generates a collection order. The app also compiles all daily orders and sends them to the collection service provider.

Bridgestone Americas has launched the BDR-AS3 retread, the latest solution from Bandag designed for the demands of package and delivery (P&D) and last-mile delivery (LMD) applications. Bandag, owned by Bridgestone, provides retreading solutions that perform like new tires.

The BDR-AS3 aims to enhance vehicle longevity and performance with a non-directional tread pattern that delivers an 18% improvement in wear more its predecessor, according to the company.

“The P&D and LMD segments are vital components of the supply chain, requiring unique tread products to stay operational,” said Steve Hoeft, president of the commercial truck group at Bridgestone Americas. “The BDR-AS3 addresses these needs with its durable and dependable design.”

Key features of the BDR-AS3 include a non-directional tread with a 22/32nd design that improves wear; 3D siping for exceptional all-season traction; a certification with the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF); and a traction index 73% higher than the certification requirement, designed to ensure reliable performance in harsh winter conditions.

Michelin has introduced the X Works D pre-mold drive position retread, the latest addition to its Retread Technologies on-road/off-road line. The new retread has been designed to provide enhanced wear performance, toughness and traction for mixed and aggressive applications.

The Michelin X Works D pre-mold retread complements the Michelin X Works D new tire and “features exceptional traction in both new and worn condition”, the tire maker said. Stone ejectors and unique siping minimize stone retention, improve wear mileage and provide directional tread.

“The Michelin X Works D retread is designed specifically for the construction, energy, concrete and logging industries,” said Pierluigi Cumo, VP of B2B marketing for Michelin North America.

To enhance the productivity of Volánbusz Hungary’s retreading operations, Marangoni has supplied its facility in Győr with a new Ringer 2000 machine.

Until now, the company has used a RingTreader 1000 to retread tires. The new Ringer 2000 features Marangoni’s RingTread system to increase the standardization of components, and it is anticipated that it will enable an increase in productivity and reliability at the site.

“The Ringer 2000 offers Volánbusz Hungary a host of advantages,” said Leo Linkesch, area manager at Marangoni. “Compared to the RingTreader 1000 used previously, it provides a more balanced ring arrangement on the casing, due to its 10 jaws instead of eight.”

With a shared goal to provide a “one-stop solution” for tire retreading, the partnership seeks to expand their franchisee network while ensuring access to quality retreads that suit differing customer requirements while remaining cost effective.

Marangoni will draw on its established franchisee network based in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and future locations in the National Capital Region and Rajasthan to enable the companies to serve customers more efficiently.

Italy-based retreading company Marangoni has recognized the retreadability of the Westlake-branded off-the-road (OTR) tires. Following the recognition, the company’s OTR casings have now been placed into Marangoni’s retreading process.

The Marangoni approval was granted because the Westlake OTR tires have a strong casing design, which enables the casing to remain in an excellent condition even after thousands of hours of use, making it suitable for reuse through the retreading process.

Thanks to ZC Rubber’s improved technology, Westlake OTR tires benefit from being more environmentally friendly in terms of maximizing cost per hour and reducing end-of-life disposal costs.

Oliver Rubber, a retread rubber company, has released its latest drive position retread, the Vantage Max Drive II.

The Vantage Max Drive II meets current SmartWay requirements for line-haul and regional applications and benefits from 26% more tread depth than its predecessor, the Vantage Max Drive. The retread has been designed using the company’s own rubber compounding to deliver improved mileage performance and enhanced fuel savings.

The tire also features Oliver Rubber’s VDI (Visual Depth Indicator) plus feature, which enables tire users to identify tread pull points and helps resist the retention of road debris.

The Vantage Max Drive II tread will be available in five sizes: 210, 220, 230, 240 and 250.
