Magna Tyres has announced the acquisition of Telescope Tyres Group, an Australian tire and service specialist with multiple branches across regional New South Wales.

The acquisition strengthens Magna’s regional presence in Parkes, Dubbo, Gunnedah and Cowra, New South Wales, while expanding its service offering by combining Telescope Tyres’ on-site, mechanical and fleet solutions with Magna’s global product portfolio. It also creates operational synergies for improved logistics, supply chain efficiency and service reliability, while maintaining local leadership to ensure customer continuity and community connections.

Telescope Tyres will continue operating under its existing brand in the near term, supported by Magna Tyres’ global resources, systems and network integration.

Kumho Tire has announced that it has selected Opole, Poland, as the site for its first European plant. The decision is part of the company’s strategy to expand its global production footprint and accelerate growth in the European market.

The Opole facility is scheduled to begin operations in August 2028, pending investment and regulatory approval. The first phase will support an annual production capacity of six million tires, with phased expansions planned according to market demand. The total investment is valued at US$587m.

Kumho assessed several European countries as potential locations for its new plant, considering factors such as site suitability, market growth potential, investment stability, profitability and available incentives.

Rimere, a plasma company with proprietary nanocarbon production technology, has announced a distribution partnership with ACS Material, a provider of graphene for research and industry, to help accelerate the international reach of Rimere’s products.

“Our distribution agreement with ACS Material positions Rimere’s products on a trusted, established platform, making it available to researchers, manufacturers and innovators around the world. We are pleased to be a partner in providing nanocarbon and graphene materials to advance applications on an international scale,” said Rimere’s CEO, Mitchell Pratt.

This strategic relationship aims to provide ACS’s network of research universities, laboratories and technology companies with access to Rimere’s portfolio of nanocarbon materials, including its innovative crumpled graphene, known for its electrical conductivity and thermal properties.

Apollo Tyres has signed new distribution agreements for France and Scandinavia as part of a broader plan to improve the availability and visibility of the Vredestein bicycle tire range across Europe.

In France, Apollo has appointed two new partners: Triangle SAS will manage distribution for urban and commuting tires and inner tubes, while AlternativSport will focus on the sports segment.

In Scandinavia, the company has signed a strategic agreement with Cykelgear, which will offer the entire range of Vredestein bicycle tires and inner tubes to B2B and retail customers in the region.

“These new agreements are a major step in our European growth strategy for the Vredestein brand,” said Nic Knippers, division head for TWT at Apollo Tyres.

A new distribution agreement between Apollo and logistics provider GEFCO will connect customers in France with the tire maker’s warehousing facility in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Apollo began integrating GEFCO into its supply chain in May of this year – since then, the partnership has cut average lead times to under four days and improved the overall ordering and delivery process.

GEFCO’s focus is on orders of between six and 40 tires. Larger orders will continue to be fulfilled by an existing partner that typically collects from Apollo Tyres’ factory in Hungary.

“We’re driving excellence across our business and firmly believe that this collaboration with GEFCO will ensure we are better able to meet growing demand for our TBR tires across France, maximizing satisfaction and loyalty among new and existing customers,” said John Nikhil Joy, Apollo’s cluster director Europe – truck and bus tires.

An agreement signed by Hankook Tyre UK and Prologis will see the latter provide a new build-to-suit unit at Prologis Apex Park in Daventry, UK. The site will be used as the tire manufacturer’s new UK-based distribution hub.

The high-specification 33,200m2  facility is scheduled for completion in early 2024 and forms part of the Hankook organization’s plans to grow its UK-based business.

Prologis Apex Park is located on the northern edge of Daventry in Northamptonshire, within the so-called logistics ‘golden triangle’ at the center of the UK’s motorway and rail network. The facility has easy access to several major motorways including the M1 and M45, and also to rail freight facilities at Prologis RFI DIRFT nearby.

As part of a major expansion plan, Maxam Tire has established a new distribution center in Houston, Texas, with 22,700m2 of floor space. It is the tire manufacturer’s third warehouse in the USA and will be used to support the company’s continued growth.

Much like the company’s existing warehouses in Los Angeles, California and Memphis, Tennessee, the site was chosen to enable Maxam to meet customers’ needs and supply products as efficiently as possible.

Maxam anticipates that the warehouse will be fully operational by the end of March 2023 and will enable the company to improve its service for both dealers and customers.

Cooper Tire is to open a 1,000,000ft2   regional distribution center in Whiteland, Indiana that will provide extra capacity for product storage alongside a modern space for optimizing company operations.

“As we strive to meet customer needs and continue providing outstanding customer service, this new, larger distribution center positions Cooper to navigate logistic requirements faster and more efficiently,” commented Mike Calabro, executive director, North America supply chain for Cooper. “We are also pleased the workforce from our former distribution center in Franklin, Indiana, has transitioned with us to this new location.”

“Throughout the entire process, from site selection to finished construction, the support we received from the town of Whiteland as well as real estate investment firm  has been tremendous,” ended Calabro.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company have entered a definitive transaction agreement that will see Goodyear acquire Cooper for a total of US$2.5bn. Goodyear says the move will create a strong US manufacturer, combining both companies’ strengths with increased presence in distribution and retail channels.

“This is an exciting and transformational day for our companies,” said Richard J Kramer, Goodyear chairman, chief executive officer and president. “The addition of Cooper’s complementary tire product portfolio and highly capable manufacturing assets, coupled with Goodyear’s technology and industry leading distribution, provides the combined company with opportunities for improved cost efficiency and a broader offering for both companies’ retailer networks.
