The tire addresses needs such as varying road conditions, frequent stops, heavy traffic and the rising use of electric buses. The tire has a thick sidewall and robust compounds designed to provide durability following knocks against curbs and other obstacles. The tire’s design also supports retreading and recycling, extending its lifecycle and reducing environmental impact.

Tire longevity is a primary concern for urban bus fleets. The Conti Urban HA 5 features an enhanced tread cap and base compound, specifically formulated for urban road conditions.

The advice, concerning truck, bus and radial (TBR) tires, comes after two transition reviews into anti-dumping and countervailing measures on lorry and bus tires imported from China. These reviews examined the UK’s existing anti-dumping and countervailing measures, which were originally implemented due to the UK’s membership of the EU. Following the end of the transition period on December 31, 2020, these measures were incorporated into UK law.

The company aims to begin marketing sustainable carbon black produced from these recycled tires by March 2026.

The tire industry is shifting toward the use of sustainable raw materials, leading to a rising demand for recycled carbon black, a key material used as a rubber reinforcing agent in tires. MCG says it plans to leverage its existing supply chain to process crushed ELTs in its coke ovens, converting the material into carbon black.
